Calculate Hall effect parameters for charge carriers in magnetic fields

Enter EITHER carrier density to calculate Hall voltage, OR Hall voltage to calculate carrier density:

About the Hall Effect

The Hall effect occurs when charge carriers in a conductor experience a Lorentz force due to an applied magnetic field, creating a transverse voltage. The sign of this voltage reveals the carrier type.

Key Formulas:

  • VH = IB/(net) (Hall voltage)
  • RH = 1/(nq) (Hall coefficient)
  • EH = vd × B (Hall field)
  • μH = |RH|σ (Hall mobility)

Applications:

  • Determining carrier type and density
  • Hall effect sensors and magnetometers
  • Current sensing
  • Semiconductor characterization
