Empirical Formula: R = r₀ × A^(1/3)
where:
- R = nuclear radius
- r₀ ≈ 1.2-1.3 fm (experimentally determined constant)
- A = mass number (protons + neutrons)
- 1 fm (femtometer) = 10^-15 m
This formula shows that nuclear volume is proportional to A, meaning nuclear density is approximately constant.
