About Light Polarization
Polarization describes the orientation of the electric field oscillations in light waves. Polarizers selectively transmit light of a particular polarization direction.
Key Formulas:
- I = I₀ cos²θ (Malus's Law)
- Unpolarized → Linear: I = I₀/2
- tan θB = n₂/n₁ (Brewster's angle)
Types of Polarization:
- Linear: E-field oscillates in a plane
- Circular: E-field rotates (left/right)
- Elliptical: General case
