Calculate exciton binding energy and Bohr radius in semiconductors
About Excitons
An exciton is a bound electron-hole pair in a semiconductor, similar to a hydrogen atom but with much smaller binding energy due to dielectric screening and effective masses.
Wannier-Mott Model:
- Eb = (μ/ε²) × 13.6 eV
- aB = (ε/μ) × 0.529 Å
- μ = me*mh*/(me* + mh*)
- En = -Eb/n² (hydrogen-like)
Exciton Types:
- Wannier-Mott: aB >> lattice constant
- Frenkel: aB ~ lattice constant
- Charge-transfer: intermediate case
