Cyclotron Frequency Calculator
Calculate the cyclotron (gyro) frequency of charged particles in magnetic fields
About Cyclotron Frequency
The cyclotron frequency (also called gyrofrequency) is the frequency at which a charged particle gyrates around magnetic field lines. It is independent of the particle's velocity in the non-relativistic case.
Formulas:
- ωc = |q|B/m (angular frequency)
- fc = ωc/(2π) (frequency)
- rL = mv⊥/(|q|B) (Larmor radius)
- ωc' = ωc/γ (relativistic)
Applications:
- Cyclotron particle accelerators
- Mass spectrometry
- Plasma confinement in fusion devices
- Electron cyclotron resonance heating
