What Is a Golf Handicap Index?
A golf handicap index is a numerical measure of a golfer's playing ability, allowing players of different skill levels to compete on a level playing field. The lower your handicap index, the better you play relative to par. A scratch golfer has a handicap of 0, while a beginner might carry a handicap of 30 or higher.
The modern World Handicap System (WHS) was introduced in 2020 to unify six previously separate handicap systems used around the world. How Many Differentials Are Used?
The World Handicap System does not simply average all your differentials. Instead, it selects only your best (lowest) differentials, with the number of scores used increasing as you build a larger scoring record.
